The Unlock Programme

The Unlock Programme has been developed to ‘unlock’ barriers to decarbonising cotton and raw materials production, and aims to provide a game-changing catalyst for increased adoption of lower climate impact and regenerative farming practices globally. With a particular focus on ensuring a just transition for those in the global south.

It does this by supporting farmers to identify and implement practice changes, quantifying the actual GHG impact (and other impact) of these changing practices, and issuing additional, outcomes-based financial incentives to farmers called ‘Unlock Units’. The system is designed to align with all best practices around claims and reporting, with the purpose of allowing participating companies to report under SBTi, SBTN, CSRD and other key mechanisms.

Unlock has now completed its pilot phase, and will include 10-15 thousand farmers in its transition growing season of 2024.
